Newly-released Climate Change Plan for Scotland 2018-2032 is a big improvement on the draft. Agriculture still very tough sector, but great to see plans for a specific nitrogen fertiliser emissions target there. @ScotGovClimatepic.twitter.com/BVt3BXRDKL

The final Climate Change Plan a big improvement? On Nitrogen fertiliser it's still only a plan for a plan! 'Work with agric & science reg feasibility & development of a target'. 'Feasibility is added in new Plan & adds more uncertainty. We need outright commitment to N Budget.

Compare with the draft plan Jim - final version is much more coherent in terms of fit to targets. Loads more to do on N management of course.

Deeply disappointing that @ScotGovClimate appears to have so little ambition for sustainable agricultural land use. I look around me in Argyll and see great swathes of destructive land use and almost zero interest in delivering change from @FergusEwingMSP

As we decarbonise energy the importance of agri sector in Scotland becomes greater still. It's around 17% of our GHG emissions now and little progress on reducing emissions in recent years. To hit >80% reduction by 2050 will need major climate-smart transformation in agriculture
