This map shows the crazy patchwork of property boundaries in the agricultural settlement of Tesselaarsdal (20km south-east of Caledon). And there's an interesting history of how this situation came to be... (1/9)

A technique I use quite often when trying to understand what developer tools are doing is to write a wrapper script. Realised others may find it useful. For example this is my ~/bin/git and /tmp/git.log

Our engineers loved so much that we decided to make it the singular supported tool at Yelp for and viewing 🤩:

The problem now is the serviceName field on a StatefulSet is immutable, and changing a ClusterIP service to a headless service (which we intentionally didn't do for backwards compatibility) is not possible. This means our next release will have annoying steps for an admin :'(

It works so well. I had an issue resolving pod DNS entries for a StatefulSet. Reading the src made me realise it works via setting a Pod field called subdomain (something I didn't realise existed) Some googling then lead me to

Another reason I love emacs, the "rx" macro. I wrote this ugly regex to extract details out of GitHub page titles. Just rewrote it using "rx". What do you think is more readable?

I really enjoyed reading "Making the Tokio scheduler 10x faster" It's got a bit of everything: data structures, low-level tuning, tool-assisted correctness, performance metrics.

Git tip I wish I'd discovered ten years ago: if you `git config --global diff.noprefix true` it removes the silly `a/` and `b/` prefixes so that when you double-click select one to copy, you get a usable filename instead of a mangled path.

Working on dev tools is one of the most rewarding, challenging, and fascinating experiences. The frustrations of your users are your own frustrations, the satisfaction yours as well. That is all.
