    this panel at was fun, more like rapid-fire mini-artist-talks with a brief q&a. i tried to start a fight towards the end by saying: anyone worried about getting ripped off needs to make better work. but then we ran out of time.

    i'm curious about the origin of the language "hallucination" and "dreaming" in computer vision research. afaik "hallucination" was introduced by baker & kanade in 1999, and "dreaming" was popularized by deep dream in 2015. any earlier examples?

    an aside: do you or does anybody you know actually use the image descriptions on twitter? am i actually helping any visually impaired people, or have i just been providing free labor for computer vision algorithms?
