so i accidentally uncovered a trail of horrific grape murder crimes this weekend. if you're in CA, you know these Hobgoblin grapes are all over the grocery right now. i was eating them, thought 'huh these are cute, are they grown nearby?,' googled it, and got WAY too much info.pic.twitter.com/8OOz89IEZF
Hobgoblin grapes come from from Dulcich Farms. Dulcich, as it turns out, was owned by Jakov Dulcich and his wife, two Croatian immigrants in their mid-80s. i say 'was' because on April 11, 2018, Jakov was murdered by an unknown assailant while driving on a 2-lane road.
Here's what the only witness, another driver, says happened: a Kia and Dulcich's SUV were coming towards him, taking up both lanes. The Kia was chasing the SUV. Witness swerved off the road, and Dulcich's SUV swerved, too, crashing into him. Then the driver of the Kia got out.
The Kia driver shot through the window of Dulcich's SUV, killing him. The witness says there were two men in that car. The gunman turned to his passenger, said, "let me kill this guy too," got out, and held a gun to the witness. But when he pulled the trigger, nothing happened.

soon after, police located a burned-out car matching the description of the Kia. They arrested the car's owner, a man named Mariano Perez. BUT: the witness, after initially picking Perez as the "closest" out of a lineup, later says Perez wasn't the killer.https://tinyurl.com/yykmtcp8
Perez ultimately wasn't convicted (there was also no murder weapon, motive, or DNA connection), and he walked. His lawyer claimed he seemed to be in good spirits. And then, a few months later, a separate employee who has worked for the Dulcich grape company for 25 years was targeted by a drive-by shooting on his home. As far as public info goes, the trail seems to go cold there. Jakov Dulcich's killer hasn't been found. Neither has the person who killed Perez. People theorize it was a hit job on Dulcich, but who would want to kill a nice elderly grape man and his employees? And why???
