Our @schwellenbach to @kchangnyt on newly confirmed #NASA head: “Someone in that position needs to set a strong ethical tone, from the top, about the proper use of taxpayer dollars.”
But Bridenstine's record makes us worry that we won't see that.https://nyti.ms/2JVwVSF

FWIW, here’s Phil Larson, a WH space advisor for Obama, saying nice things about Bridenstine.https://www.wnycstudios.org/story/trumps-controversial-nasa-pick …

His background running a space museum aside, Bridenstine anti-government, anti-science politics are my concern and this administration is stacked with this “thinking” that is doing real damage and given the urgency of the times, we may never recover from it.

Listen to the interview. Fine if you disagree, but
@philliplarson has an informed when he says NASA (including earth science) will be ok. I don't think he would say that about everything.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -

Having a man who is pro-business as the head of NASA has its advantages theses days, however the “vision” one needs to see the world in different dimensions, not just the dollars and cents has been invaluable in the pursuit of science. As well as in the pursuit of a healthy world

That was the objection to James Webb, too. "He was not, however, a scientist or engineer-something he noted when President Kennedy asked him to consider the job as NASA Administrator." https://www.jwst.nasa.gov/whois.html

Agreed but are you comparing Bridenstine to Webb? Webb was a visionary, brindenstine at best would describes as a caretaker. Science today, especially with the current occupant of the WH, is in desperate need of a visionary, much like Webb, not a bag man for business interests.

If they wanted a caretaker, Bridenstine wouldn't have been the choice. The Trump people would never say this, but the Trump space policy is largely a continuation of what the Obama people wanted to do. Obviously not true for other agencies.
