Do you realize that Venus is 100-1000x larger in diameter, thus 10,000-1,000,000 times larger as viewed (circle) ???

Yes, and LSST has a huge mirror and thus can see much dimmer objects. Mainzer was making argument of geometry to Myhrvold.

Again, in context of article, it makes sense. Something inside of Earth’s orbit is not out of sight of ground-based telescopes.

The article does not say NEOs are as easy to see as Venus.
