@kchangnyt transitions between dwarf & non-dwarf status, as happens. Under this revised scheme doesn't suddenly become or cease being planet

@DrFunkySpoon Everyone forgets Gingerich et al proposed exactly that & everyone hated that too.

@kchangnyt I don't think everyone hated it. Some slight tweaks were requested & process went off the rails. Have u read accounts of Prague?

@DrFunkySpoon I’m referring to the public reaction. People just wanted Pluto, not to clutter the solar system.

@kchangnyt There was definitely some public attachment to Pluto. All the more reason not to confuse & upset people w unnecessary "demotion".

@DrFunkySpoon The 8 planets is by far least confusing option. Ask people to name the 5 dwarf planets or the 6 "almost certainly" dwarfs.

@kchangnyt I mean kids & others were (rightfully) confused about why Pluto was suddenly no longer a planet. (I was a museum curator at time)
