Maybe the reason people are so scared of doing math is because of articles like this assuming factoring and doing the quadratic formula r too difficult for algebra students

Am I missing something here? How is this different from the method of “completing the squares” that is usually taught just before the introduction of the quadratic formula? In the equation you present, x**2 -4x is changed to (x-2)**2 - 4, so the equation becomes (x-2)**2 - 9 = 0.
