If I write, “Einstein and others revolutionized our understanding of physics in the 20th century,” you’re not going to have a cow about Einstein not personally making every discovery or that he died before the end of the 20th century.

Yeah well that's because that's totally disanalogous. Even if you left out the "and others" it would still be true, because "in the 20th century" doesn't mean continuous revolutionizing until 2000.
