Bowersox: earliest we could launch Artemis 1 is end of next year. "And then if you start throwing in weather delays, any potential technical problems, anything that we have to fix after we fire the engines, that adds on extra time."

Doug Cooke: I think that the pressure to get to commercial capabilities and drive that objective is causing us to do things that are higher risk.

Bowersox responds: A big driver is to have flexibility. We want to have multiple options. We don't want to rely just on one system, we'd like to have other systems.

Bowersox: What I would say about the Apollo approach is that it was simpler. I wouldn't say it was necessarily safer. I think that our current approach has a lot of potential to be actually safer than Apollo even because of the flexibility & complexity

Cooke maintains that simpler is safer, and clearly we've got agendas going on here.
