There may also be questions like: Were the tolerances tight enough? Was the testing program robust? Should there have been more redundant systems? Those drive up cost. Sometimes it’s smart to take the riskier approach.

It was a 15 minute landing, taken up never before, so, we'll have to wait for the data. Right now, everything is a shot in the dark, speculation.

The Orbiter shall provide a better look into the situation with comm data and maybe pictures, soon. Let's hope for the best.
