That is only if the question was written as 8/(2(2+2)) It was not, so the only answer is 16.

Yes. But it wasn't written that way. People aren't getting this wrong due to confusion of division symbols and fractions. I see way more people getting it wrong because they think that division comes before multiplication. That is not a matter of ambiguity.

I agree that it's poorly written, but as written, there is only one correct answer, even if it's not immediately clear.
