If you thought 8 ÷ 2(2+2) = ? was stupid and pointless, so did a lot of mathematicians.https://nyti.ms/2YKDk9f

Why bother to spell things correctly? Why bother to use proper grammar? Any of those can be called arbitrary, stupid rules. There's no real absolute reason to do anything one way or the other than to simplify communication, and the same goes for PEMDAS.

We put people on the moon with PEMDAS. We created artificial intelligence with PEMDAS. It’s more important that anyone seems to understand.

Ok, I found 3 type of answers 8÷2(2+2) = 1/8/16 It's depend on our perspective of the rule, lol 1> 8÷(2(2+2))=1 8> 8 (2+2) = 8 _ 2 16> 8 x (2+2) = 16 _ 2

For your answer to be 1, you would need the outer pair of parentheses to be there. But they’re not there, are they?

Exactly! It's just our visual perception that creates this ambiguity – and there's no doubt a simple expression has been written that way •intentionally•, to have some fun

The rules are simple, and must always be applied, whether they are a/b(c+d) or 8/2(2+2). PEMDAS. There are no exponents, or subtraction. Just follow the rules. Every. Single. Monotonous. Time. It’s really that easy.

How do you know whoever wrote the equation did not mean the answer to be 1 ?

Why should you have to remember stupid rules?!? Wtf kind of argument is that? It’s so you know the rules when applying them to much more difficult expressions in higher math. And life.
-
True. No one •must• remember the rules; if someone chooses not to – it's okay; just be prepared that others (who •do• remember the rules) might (and, ultimately, will) take advantage of their knowledge.
