It’s because we were all taught PEMDAS which implies that multiplication comes before division.
Except that’s not what PEMDAS says. Multiplication and division have equal priority and you do them from left to right.

Right, but if you happen to forget that fact, you’ll likely interpret PEMDAS as, you know, actually telling you the order of operations like they said in school. It’s misleading.
