I don’t know how people expect me to respond when they say they would love to read my column, but the @nytimes has a fire wall and wants them to subscribe. I will never tell you what to do with your money. But, journalism is a profession like any other. Do you work for free?
How often have you seen an ad-free magazine? Most magazines are full of advertisements and yet you pay for those. It's a trade-off and a business. Would you pay 50% more to eliminate the ads?

We _are_ adjusting. The Times has more paying customers today than ever in its history, by far. Just because it’s not worth it for you does not make it a bad business model.
