4 million paid subscribers vs. traffic from NASAWatch. One pays for my salary; the other cannot. It's unfortunate that I lose some clicks because of the paywall but far better than the alternative of no job, zero clicks.
I'm not telling you how to run your site. If your readers hate hitting a paywall (after 10 free NYT articles a month), then of course, you shouldn't be linking to my stories. But The Times also has to do what makes business sense for The Times.
I mean there's always *looks nervously from side to side* incognito mode too... But don't tell anyone.
