Here are a few tweets to explain why I'm really concerned about the Moon 2024 program. As one DC source told me, "The human spaceflight enterprise is about to go over the cliff."

It is over the cliff. Demanding the sacrifice of Pell Grants to fund the stupidly-designed (see Mike Griffin) inadequately-justified vendor-driven lunar program is the kiss of death. It could destroy bipartisan support for NASA for a generation.

Bob, run a scenario in which we do a one-way trip, with resuppliable hab. Seems like that could beat the 2024 deadline, and we could figure out how to get them back later. It would give us useful data on long-term partial gravity, and we'd call it, "This time to stay."

And 4 to 8 years after that another new direction with billions more in spending.. More pork for the states.. Missing more dates. Overrunning more budgets.. Wash Rinse and Repeat.. I see a pattern.

Also a problem if 2021 brings the same President, but he changes his mind about the Moon. ...nah. This President never changes his mind about anything.
