But absent a strong intervention from an administration, Congress drives the bus. And you end up with this:https://arstechnica.com/science/2019/03/an-alabama-representative-just-let-the-cat-out-of-the-bag-with-the-sls-rocket/ …

The “business as usual” model for NASA is not working. It is good that
@VP and@JimBridenstine are changing that so@NASA can get back to doing what it was created to do.1 reply 4 retweets 1 like -

I may have missed it, but did any member of Congress put out a "Yay, moon!" statement? It doesn't seem like a top-20 priority for anyone.

I don't recall any. Priorities were: SLS utility Stem funding Ground systems in Florida Stennis contracts SLS jobs Serrano was decent, I thought, in that he was the only one who kind of asked about the 2024 date and whether it was doable. (Sought to paint it as political).

When does Congress start working on the next NASA authorization? That'll show whether the moon in '24 idea has any traction. Esp. with Ted "You're not taking away my ISS, no, no, no" Cruz.

I doubt they do one for awhile, but that is just another way of saying I'm not sure. We'll know whether this idea has any traction if/when there are significant changes at HQ imo.

Purge Gerst? What else would qualify as a "significant change"?

An end to the SLS lip service from Bridenstine. But that would set off a war with Shelby et al.

Bridenstine is not starting a war with Shelby unless 1600 Pennsylvania tells him to, which would astonish me. When Hannity starts talking about it, I'll be convinced it's a real and major priority of the administration.

Yes, I'm sure Trump would like to see it happen, but the ADHD will kick in soon enough.
