It's not official, but multiple sources say that, on Tuesday, @VP plans to announce NASA will land humans on the Moon by or even before 2025. "We're tired of generating PowerPoint journeys that don't go anywhere," one adviser said.https://arstechnica.com/science/2019/03/vice-president-may-tell-nasa-to-accelerate-lunar-landings/ …

This raises lots of questions about funding, and more. We don't have all of the answers yet. But I would expect to see more funding for the nascent lunar lander program.

Building Gateway, the lander, and SLS simultaneously in 6 years seems beyond the current bandwidth. Does this mean missions go straight to the Moon from LEO?

I agree with this, Phil. It's too much. But my (limited) understanding is they're sticking with Gateway for now.

It's hard to see this being funded to completion. But we'll see.

It was also hard to see a NASA administrator getting up before Congress and say ... maybe we should launch Orion on commercial rockets. Skepticism warranted, but we live in interesting time.

Yes. The issue here is: it's not like we haven't had this general sort of statement in previous admins. What I don't see is any consensus between Admin and Congress that would ensure the stable funding needed to actually accomplish this.

Brilliantly put. And I agree. We'll have to see what VP says, and then we'll have to see what Congress does, as the two appear to be at odds.

Not to mention the disconnect with OMB and the *president*'s budget request which came out like a week and a half ago?

I assume there will be some clarification on that. But certainly a valid question.

With that being said, if you compare what nasa asked for in the budget, and what it got from OMB, there is a distinct emphasis on landers from the WH that wasn’t there from NASA.
