This year's winner of the Abel Prize, math's equivalent of the Nobel, is Karen Uhlenbeck. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/19/science/karen-uhlenbeck-abel-prize.html …

Hi Kenneth, Karen is an amazing mathematician... which is obvious. While she's held many awards and certificates and is often labeled "The first woman", the fact is that her work is so incredible on so many levels that calling out her gender is quite sad. Please write something..

Seriously? Through much of her career, Karen Uhlenbeck was told she should not do math. Not because she was stupid, not because she was bad at math, but because she was a woman…

According to Wikipedia it's the Fields Medal that's regarded as the equivalent of a Nobel Prize.

So which one is now more of a "Nobel prize" for maths, Fields Medal or Abel Prize?

The Abel Prize is a Norwegian prize, modeled on the Nobel Prize. The #FieldsMedal and several other prestigious prizes are awarded by the International Mathematical Union (IMU). See https://bit.ly/2TL6CqK  for more info on the IMU awards.
