@kchangnyt great to see FMs announced in NYTs. But no mention of American born FMs, when were the last? Does US celebrate its own top scientists, or is that only done in China, Japan, India, Iran, France, Germany, ...?
Last U.S.-born Fields medalist was Curt McMullen in 1998, I believe. Before that, Ed Witten in 1990.

I hope the NYT's does a more complete followup on the 4 FMs and their achievements! Also dearth of US FMs - both as a fact and a cultural phenomenon - does US promote/value achievement in this area?
