Last month, I testified in Olympia for two bills: promoting safe storage of firearms, and allowing local governments to pass common sense safeguards such as safe storage, requiring reporting of stolen firearms, and restricting children’s access to firearms.
At the time, I noted that gun violence is a public health crisis, and it is preventable. We can attack it the same way we have reduced deaths from smoking and auto accidents.
Today, as we mourn so many young lives cut short, as we fear for our children and wonder what kind of tragedy would finally break the stranglehold of the gun lobby on our elected representatives, we must keep up the fight.
We must not let their avarice and callousness prevent us from saying with a loud, collective voice: Enough.
