In their 63 years of marriage, she served as a trusted advisor to her husband as he advanced in the political ranks from County Commissioner, to County Executive, to Governor.

Her personal focus throughout her life was feeding the community’s hungry, and she and Gov. Spellman worked side by side to increase public and private support for food banks and feeding programs.
