In recent years, we have made great strides in reforming juvenile justice. Today, I am signing another Executive Order that goes further.

I am instructing departments to provide a plan that reorganizes juvenile detention services under the oversight & direction of @KCPubHealth.

By adopting a public health approach, we limit the traumatization of youth in detention & ensure families have access to support & services.

This approach fits hand-in-glove with @BestStartsKC, which finds the root causes of poverty and provides the resources for a better future.

The staff at the Youth Services Center is incredibly committed. They are patient, kind, and they understand the challenges of adolescence.

They have embraced the philosophy and practice of restorative justice. By using a Public Health model, we will be able to do more.
