Until we reach zero youth incarceration, there will be a need for secure detention—both for the public & youth.

But understand: KC is united on pushing forward w/ the best ideas in juvenile justice reform.

I also want to say this: I am open to anybody telling me what else we can do. If anyone has new and better ideas, I’m all ears.

We're also using best practices and new ideas when it comes to another pressing issue: Homelessness.

Everywhere I go, people want to talk about the tents and tarps and unsheltered folks who signal a breach in our social contract.

Compassion alone won’t help bring people in—and neither will simply spending money. It’s about investing in the right way.

In the interest of reform, King Co has taken over management of coordinated entry so people have an easier time getting shelter & housing.

We're also collecting and using data and requiring program performance measures as a key component of our service provider contracts.
