This epidemic of violence must end. We cannot allow it to be a part of American life, and instead must do all we can to keep guns out of the hands of those who inflict on our families and communities such irreparable harm.

On Tuesday, Washington State took an important step and passed common sense gun laws. Just days later, we mourn those who lost their lives in Thousand Oaks, and honor the heroism of Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus.

yet, that state, which already has the strictest gun laws in the nation still had this event happen. Unfortunately, these laws won’t help prevent these issues from happening. If someone has ill intent, nothing will really stop them from doing harm. Can we discuss mental health?
