Excited to share that I will also be giving a talk at VAMLIS’s this year about a new web application (release date TBA) our team has developed.

I had the privilege of teaching a two-day workshop, Modern Geospatial Data Analysis with R, at the conference with an amazing group of TAs and participants. I've made the slides available here: , , ,

Sounds nice, but I’m still convinced I’m just going to be changing the modeling approaches for my thesis data until I die

Hey , can I see some examples of data-heavy scientific ? Or just very well-designed/attractive story maps in general? Looking for some inspiration!

Just a heads up, a lot of graduate students from poor families financially support family at home even while in school. Being able to “focus exclusively on your studies” during grad school is kind of a luxury.

Rock climbing definitely makes me a better scientist! It teaches me: Find big challenge...try...fail...problem solve...learn from others...try again...make progress...fail again...keep going...cheer for others. It’s also just super fun and gives me muscles that I’m proud of 💪

I have thought about these two paragraphs so many times over the years. Huge thanks to for finding the source.

But really, this helps. I didn’t start feeling like a programmer until the first time I woke up with a solution to a coding problem clearly in my head

Has anyone come up with a more efficient way of extracting data values from graphs other than using ImageJ’s “measure” function?

I wrote a new blog post on using the new "pivot" functions to convert water-quality data from wide to long. Also included is code for opening a ...somewhat messy😬...Excel file. The pivot functions are great, and really powerful!

Any advice for giving an R-heavy conference talk to people who may not be R users? I’m interested in potentially sharing R workflows that focus on scraping, automation, and geospatial processing & how those can feed into & automate web map updates.
