My 6yr. old tonight- “Did you think lockdowns were scary when you were little?” Me-We didn’t have lockdowns. Why do you think they’re scary? “Our teacher tells us to be quiet but what if people have keys? Or guns?” Can we live in a world where this isn’t my kid’s bedtime story?

There was a 2nd part to this convo that I didn't have room to share but will here. I explained she should find a place to hide. That maybe she could fit in one of the cupboards. She paused and said "There wouldn't be room for all the kids. How would we decide who gets to hide?"

I know. My 6 year old grandson has said something similar. My daughter no longer watch's the news when the kids are around. But that started with Trump.

Unfortunately not in the USA, bc you know an archaic second amendment that “obviously” 🙄 referenced to automatic weapons and anything that belonged on a battle field

I graduated 2 years after Columbine. So I experienced a bit of this during high school, and yeah, it was scary. But I can't imagine going through lockdown drills in elementary school. No child should have to worry about being shot anywhere, let alone in school.

Our children have to be afraid at school that someone will come inside and shoot them. NRA, the organization of death and fear!

Since congress won’t do anything about common sense gun legislation we need to elect a new congress who will. The power is in the hands of the voters not the NRA.

Unfortunately, much of this isn't a new problem but the light shone on it makes it more grotesque. That and the preceding eight years of semi-progression.

Of course when I was a kid we had stupidly ridiculous atom bomb training where we put our hands on back of our neck‘s and hid under our school desks
