Are there ethical issues in “converting” a nonprofit (501(c)(3)) to a for-profit entity (DE C Corp)? I’m guessing this can be done legally, but still…I’m looking at you OpenAI….

I needed a simple email client so I asked chatgpt: "smtp email client to retrieve email in python." Here's what I got.
%python smtpclient.py
runs and does the right thing.
Impressive. In the future, a program will write all the programs....

I read this in the 5th grade. I came for the basketball but learned so much more. Eye opening for a 10 year old.

At HotChips this week. Compute, I/O, Cache — what’s the trade off? Geez, same as it ever was? Great plans spoiled by the von Neumann bottleneck again? youtu.be/5IsSpAOD6K8

Good APIs are hard to write, valuable, and should be protectable intellectual property. A little disappointed on how the SCOTUS side-stepped the copyright issue in ORCL vs. GOOG.

Decentralization. No single point of failure. Open APIs. For Better or Worse, Parler is the real world test case for the Internet. Peer-to-peer op? Is DNS the choke point?

Congratulations and Karin! Super impressed as I watched Luis and Karin bring this from idea to full on success. I also reflect on the awesomeness of Maurice as for in the nanosecond I talked with him he shared much wisdom.

It's the last lecture in a senior level computer architecture class. It's the last words many students will hear in their academic life. What words of wisdom would you have?
This is important -- as much as "Why Software Is Eating The World." Like Andressessen's message. But there is a "kinetic" with Mark's. He's implementing this at Facebook, not just a successful company but a hyperscaler. Actions not just words. Props. facebook.com/zuck/videos/10
RISC-V: transforming the world with a an open ISA?
Q: I’m involved in a few small businesses (LLCs, nonprofits, and C Corps). Are there legal restrictions or financial pitfalls from taking a COVIG19 economic injury disaster loan? Ethical issues?
$10000 with few restrictions.
Amazon has the best (real time) distribution network. Maybe the president should ask Bezos if he would do us a favor. To get supplies where they need to be. He’s the best at asking for favors. It would be perfect.
Graph computations, sparse matrix optimizations, compilers — I’m sure it’s all different but #backtothefuture?

TIL: While FB friends lament Common Core because arithmetic isn’t taught as when they grew up, Google (and others) are ditching IEEE floating point 16 for brain float 16.

Want some DL cycles? A 47K mm^2 chip with 1.2 trillion transistors

A large (disproportionate?) effort is being made to provide more (efficient) compute cycles for ML. Is there really that much demand? Or is it a reflection that we can’t get many more “GP” cycles, so focus on something else?

Years ago, my idea of “active memory” got no traction. Today: “In Memory Computing” is getting traction. Is this just a small topology change with a difficult programming model?

More cores, bigger caches, fancy interconnects, coherency tricks : fool’s errand in search of local maximums?
Show this thread
As tech boils over from the fires of hubris and criticism (ahem We), it’s a throwback to another era when some people show up for a conference with little fanfare. It’s like Taylor Swift showing up at the local bar or LeBron for a pickup game.
