The new Bishop of Lewes, Will Hazlewood, is from a wing of the church whose members often don't believe women should be priests These priests prefer not to be ordained/consecrated by female bishops but also prefer not to be consecrated by male bishops who also ordain women.

For first time since law allowed women to become bishops in 2014, a bishop from this wing has come up for consecration in Archbishop of Canterbury's province This is first time ABC has stepped back from a consecration to respect views of someone who opposes female clergy.

He has also stepped aside from two other bishop consecrations today, meaning that the Rev @RBushyager will be consecrated by the Bishop of London
@bishopSarahM. This marks the first time a woman has been consecrated as a bishop by another female bishop.Show this thread -
These are statements, one lamenting and one welcoming the decision: https://womenandthechurch.org/news/the-consecration-of-the-bishops-of-horsham-and-lewes/ … http://www.forwardinfaith.com/fullposts.php?id=280 …

I consider the ordination of women not to be a major theological point - if the archbishop believes this also he has the biblical right to understand the theological objections of his fellow bishop and step back. It doesn't mean he believes in women priests any less...

But helps his brother bishop who does not. It is not a stand or fall creed issue and was not presented as such when approved by synod, house of bishops etc but as an important issue to many where Christians are allowed to differ
