"Barely relevant" is one of those nut-graf phrases you can't help but think was added as mid-level (anti-Trump) editors looked for way to torque piece to make it more cutting. They usually over-torque and produce BS, as in this case.

This piece says wall is "barely relevant" to "conservative activists who have pressed for decades for sharp reductions in both illegal and legal immigration"--and offers ZERO evidence for that. Many think E-Verify is more important. Doesn't mean they don't also want the wall.

Mulvaney, circa 2014: "There are jobs that American citizens will not do ... We have businesses that rely on migrant, legal migrant workers."

2/ And is that Trump's position? He's said we don' need the wall where there are "natural barriers." If being in "middle of the country" counts as a natural barrier there won't be much wall left. Is Mulvaney whittling down the wall the way Bolton is whittling down Syria pullout?

Note Mulvaney says, re wall, that "there are places in the middle of the country where technology will be better." 1) There are? Aren't places in middle of nowhere, where you can't station agents, exactly where you need a wall? 1/2

State Dept. may say "there hasn’t been any terrorists found coming across the southern border." But Texas says there have: 143 "land border crossing encounters with watch-listed individuals in southwest border states between November 2013 and July 2014."

ICYMI here's that PBS documentary outing Mulvaney as one of the pro-amnesty conspirators (with Reps. Diaz Balart and Gutierrez) in the 2013-14 immigration fight

DO NOT TRUST Mick Mulvaney. He's well behaved on but can't help talking about "larger immigration reform" that will "solve immigration." We know what that means (Amnesty 1st). The press knows too, which is why they will highlight the comment

DO NOT TRUST Lindsey Graham! Seems fairly solid re: Wall on Face the Nation But remember he pushed the grotesque, immigration-doubling Amnesty-First Gang of 8 plan in 2013. Here he is characterizing foes of amnesty as "bigots"

DON'T TRUST the NBC transcript of . Leaves out whole paragraphs of what Mulvaney said--from 4:00 to 5:00 on the clock of the video. Weird. Was as interesting as anything else he said. Video: Transcript: FYI

This was a fantastic article. Don't know why it hasn't been made into a movie yet. Or something even bigger -- a Podcast

Also, it *is* a big concession. Concrete seems better. At least should have option of concrete if appropriate. The prototype walls had concrete, no?

Isn't it better if the concrete-to-steell issue is made to look like a wrenching concession? That would let Dems say they'd blocked the evil concrete Trump wanted.

Right. In part because the high marginal rates encouraged unproductive tax shelters -- a waste of brain cells & energy that doesn't happen at lower rates.

Today's BORDER WALL CONSTRUCTION UPDATE .... … Wait, that's not . It's the NY Times. They've taken her job. Same conclusion though: new miles completed by Trump = zero.
