it's not how language works, or conversation, or culture. calling them by something they've named themselves doesn't inherently give them more power, and refusing to do so doesn't render them less harmful, it just confuses things

surely part of the issue here is that we HAVEN'T been talking about this insidious subculture in any specific terms, hence the confusion/sudden increase in explanatory articles post-toronto. we can't not know at least in broad strokes what these men think

yes language has power but i don't think diluting it in this way because we don't like the fact these groups exist and have established themselves on their own terms is useful. doesn't change the fact they Do exist.
