I remember being in my senior year of high school with my buddies watching that video on the iMac in one of the math teachers' room during lunchtime. I think I still have the song as an mp3 buried in the recesses of my computer!
You're right about it spreading fast. I was fairly internet savvy at the time (that used to be a thing,) but I managed to avoid memes. All Your Base just sort of showed up and I had no way to avoid it. I could not help but love the music video.
These days whenever people mention early memes I will bring up All Your Base and Mr T Ate My Balls (the first www meme.)

I had an All Your Base t-shirt at the peak of this meme. I think it actually made it into Civilization III as a quote from one of the civilization leaders, maybe on the selection screen.
That one was a real trip to see at the time. A piece of internet culture, showing up in a newspaper comic? What's next, a fast food ad?
