New review with . A growing number of studies have applied RL models to examine changes in value-based learning across development. What have we discovered from this body of work as a whole? (1/5)

Paper with on controllability and Pavlovian biases is out! We show that when rewards are less controllable, Pavlovian bias on action selection is stronger, consistent with a new normative analysis.

Really excited about this paper! In it we investigate differential environmental associations with memory-guided attention, cued attention, and associative memory as well as the link to academic achievement in school aged kids.

In this review, we explore the evidence for these two possibilities and we make some suggestions for how they can be more directly tested in future studies. I hope people find this framing useful, and I'm excited to see how this line of work evolves in the coming years. (5/5)

Alternatively, development may involve changes in the adaptivity of learning processes to different environmental demands, reflected in age-related change in the extent to which individuals’ parameter estimates resemble those of an optimal agent in a given context. (4/5)

Across studies, it may be the case that there are consistent relations between age and parameter estimates (e.g. ↑ age —> ↑ inverse temps), suggesting that development may be marked by a shift in learning “settings” — stable biases that emerge across varied contexts. (3/5)

One way to answer this question is examine the parameter estimates from these models, which capture core features of the learning process. Here, we consider two ways that parameter estimates from these models might change with age. (2/5)

New paper with and Mia Charifson! High value gain associations acquired during reinforcement learning transfer across contexts and facilitate cognitive control for older adolescents. This profile emerges with age for gain learning, but not loss learning.
