House flipper Brandon is a cable TV and tabloid star. Now he's got a new show restoring old mansions, with scheming network execs, a house that probably should have been condemned, and distractions from a dead sexy contractor. Domestic Do-Over is out now:

It's quite literally a Jim Crow relic. The filibuster as we know it today, with the ability to impose a de facto supermajority threshold, was forged by self-avowed white supremacist senators during the Jim Crow era, for the express purpose of blocking civil rights bills.

If you believe that the right to buy an assault rifle (that no one needs) somehow outweighs the rights of people to live and go about their business without fear, then something is seriously wrong with you.

For the day job, I'm working on a high school language arts program, and last week wrote a lesson on slippery slope arguments and how they are invalid. Please see GOP senators as Exhibit A: 10 people just died, Ted Cruz is out here yelling about Dems taking away guns.

After Sandy Hook shooting in 2012 bipartisan legislation requiring background checks for gun sales was supported by 86% of Americans & 54 senators but blocked by 46 senators representing just 38% of country This is why we need to abolish filibuster

As one of my friends pointed out when I mentioned this, if I were a mediocre white dude, I’d probably just hold my hand out for that cash.

I’ve only been teaching writing workshops in exchange for money for a couple of years, so I still do that, “This is my speaker fee, I hope it’s okay?” thing, and I need to knock it off.

Maybe 5 years ago, a friend of a friend ghosted me when I sent her an invoice. We hadn’t done a contract, bc friend of friend, so I had no recourse. And I vowed, Never again!

I’m better about this as an editor. I don’t edit a ton of fiction, but when I do, I make everyone sign a contract and pay me for my time, even if they are friends and family. Free work takes time away from paid work.

I hate that women/creative people's time is so undervalued that I still hesitate before telling people my fees. But we all deserve to get paid for our work!

The story is always in the SPECIFIC, something we can see, feel, experience. It's never the conceptual. Because, sheesh, the conceptual does not exist. We made it up.

Trading this for the ability to actually pass bills like voting rights seems like an easy call. If McConnell's tactics become truly onerous, Dems can always pass further reforms to end obstruction. McConnell's goal is to make government fail, Dems' goal should be to make it work.

I just splurged and bought a cute dress online. I'm viewing it as aspirational. Someday soon, I will change out of my sweatpants and venture into the world looking fabulous!
