I'm curious, as someone who works in tech, what you mean by "The most consistent stumbling block for tech companies is disrespect and outright disdain for users"? I haven't observed that behavior but I'm curious where you've seen it.

Uber obtaining a passenger’s medical file after she was raped by a driver. Facebook’s misuse of user data in Cambridge Analytica. Theranos misleading users about the accuracy of blood tests. Many of the most appalling stories about tech behavior trace back to disrespect of users.

I’m super sad that smart, powerful men who used to build companies and the future are spending all their time on here attacking young women and RT-ing IDW propaganda.

This has zero to do with gender or age. It has to do with biased, unfair reporting.

Having worked for tech companies and seeing what the media gets wrong, I get that it can be frustrating. But it never occurred to me that the first response would be to bully reporters. Instead, here is my essay on....

No, but looking at some of the reply guys on the threads, I am picking up on some gross techbro gamergate energy or something. It makes all of tech look bad that these people are defending their "heroes" this way, and you know it's being encouraged.

Too often in business and tech reporting, it seems the default is abject worship of the people (mainly men) being interviewed. It's like they're failed sports reporters. It is sickening and really dangerous. We owe @karaswisher a great debt for calling BS when she sees it.

Agree. It is impossible to get it right 100% of the time, but @karaswisher is pretty close. She says what most people feel. We need voices who are unafraid to speak about what really matters. Rarely does she attack a person, just actions. There is little merging of the minds...

Thx. We are not perfect but most journalists I know really try hard to get it right.
