I’ve written for the Times for over a decade. This is not the first time I’ve been confronted with how expendable freelancers and stringers are, but it doesn’t stop being painful or disappointing. This gesture means so much to me.

I’m super curious if the Times still has local stringers on the streets reporting during this—sending quotes and anecdotes to staffers working from home. And, if so, are those stringers making more than $20/hr?

i'm not aware of that happening in CA but don't have much visibility elsewhere in the US/internationally. here, we're still on the streets when we need to be and provided with PPE.
