google and facebook popularized "can we talk on background with quote approval" and now PR folks at agencies basically try to make this commonplace it becomes way easier when you do exactly this and create a policy — "sorry, i dont do quote approval!" and usually they cave

what really irks me is assuming you'll be okay with it. i showed up to a meeting once and they tried to set those terms right before it started. had to threaten to walk out the way the industry has grown too comfortable with coziness makes sense why they feel so whiplashed now

word. one thing i have been told recently is that they fear direct naming b/c of harassment and safety reasons. im not sure i agree with this position though, as someone who attaches my name to literally every piece of writing and statements i produce

unclear. one thing i think really changed everything to a heightened degree was the YouTube shooting. now much more reticence to use names since. (though long before any of this safety stuff it was commonplace, so i dont really buy safety as an argument)
