what really irks me is assuming you'll be okay with it. i showed up to a meeting once and they tried to set those terms right before it started. had to threaten to walk out the way the industry has grown too comfortable with coziness makes sense why they feel so whiplashed now
yeah, had to remind a comms person today that they were on record until we made an agreement otherwise and they pretended to be surprised! like, when has that not been a norm?
that said i think background conversations are useful, and I do have them often! what i dont think is helpful at all is dipping in and out of what one should quote. it's basically helping to write a script.
yeah, I get really frustrated with the implied assumption that I should be manipulable and peacefully go along with being manipulated
whenever a comms person makes a ridiculous demand, like seeing questions in advance, I break out in hives at the thought of all the journalists who dealt with the flack before me and abdicated their duty
surprising amount of writers agree to this!!!!
