The level of proof required generally depends on what rights we're taking away. No one has a right to your friendship, admiration, good opinion, or your vote. The level of proof needed is entirely up to you, as it should be in a free society.

This isn't a court of law and it shouldn't be. Our standards in civic society should be so much higher than that. If we get to the point where we have enough evidence for the man to go to jail, we've utterly failed.

It's the same principle as free speech - if we do not have high standards in private orgs/civic society, vulnerable segments face disproportionate harm.

That's what really makes me mad. I think people have no idea what kind of environment they create for women when accusations must meet the level of burden of proof meant for courts.
