Many forms of privilege we discuss are material: wealth, health, resources, freedoms, support. But there's also such a thing as *moral* privilege--the presumption that you're a good person, doing good in the world, not harm, even when the opposite is the case. Such is whiteness.

This is especially true of white men. But white women are hardly immune to it. And it makes white women all too liable to be complicit, as they try to be one of the "good ones," i.e., not guilty, by the lights of white supremacist patriarchy.

I'm white and spend my life grappling with guilt and feelings of inadequacy.

I'm sorry. That's compatible though with the fact that, as white women, we're seen as far more innocent and worthy than our Black and brown counterparts.

Lol who tf thinks white people can do no harm? If anything white people get blamed for all problems in the world while poor brown people are just innocent victims, even when the join the most brutal, intolerant ideologies like jihadism.

Is this true? Or rather, I've always assumed that humans reflexively treat those with power and prestige as morally good (otherwise how did they get there?). So in today's racist systems we tend to believe (and are trained to believe) that white folk have said moral privilege

I think there's a tonne of suspicion and consternation directed at Black people with (relatively high amounts of) power and prestige, so yeah, I do think it has to do with whiteness primarily.

I think this is a good point. After all, a good chunk of imperialists (possibly the majority) sincerely thought they were doing good by bringing non-European nations under European control. I'm not sure many soldiers or missionaries paid attention to the mercenary undercurrent...

Are you saying "nice guys" aren't owed everything they ever wanted? IMHO, I don't see how this really tracks with whiteness, though. This seems like pretty fundamental flaw in the human operating system. Is there reason to believe otherwise?
