    A PhD student at University of Florida hanged himself just before he was supposed to present his paper at ISCA 2019. This story claimed the reason is that his advisor has falsified the experiments for the paper and he couldn't live with pressure.

    I use Readcube papers which allows you to sync across web and all devices. You can store pdf's, highlight, take notes etc. Also read cool web plugin that allows you to import pdfs directly from the web. Only downside is it's cost but I really love it:

    The main reason I print and highlight papers is because there's no easy way to do this in a browser. When you work with multiple computers / operating systems, it's really the only portable solution!

    Hey , there are no visa appointments available anywhere in USA till mid/end August. Can something be done for ACL attendees?

    Visa life: trip booked to Italy at the start of August for my 30th and the current availability for a visa appointment in LA is at the end of September, almost 4 months from now. Sigh.

    Fascinating history of the pejorative "butterfly collecting" for descriptive science. tldr; most people attribute this phrase to Chompsky but may come from earlier references of physicists describing some "research" as "stamp collecting"
