I come up with new ways to try to get computers to understand people. So far they just think we're jerks.

🃏💯 “We have to really do the hard work to truly understand systemic racism...it is the obligation of the people that have created & perpetuate & benefit from a system of oppression to be the ones that dismantle it...so that’s on us”

Yesterday our lab and so many others suffered an unfathomable loss in the disaster in Tehran. Saba was a light, a leader, and a PhD disguised as an undergrad. This girl would have moved mountains. Cherish your lab babies - she was my first and she has been taken too soon

Black women are literally dying because health care professionals believe we’re faking. Please fire her so she’s away from patients and can become the fulltime IG comedian/model/influencer she deeply longs to be.

This is such an important (and worrying) issue when it comes to : 'AI has a bias problem. Barring African experts from a conference in Canada won't help': via cc

Transparency is key. Why do we have so many "secrets", and then wonder why people don't trust us? Also -- this applies to much more than medicine.

Harassers are often wealthier, more powerful, & more litigious than their victims. So companies worry more about legal threats from harassers than they do about the harm caused to victims. Leaders prioritize harassers over victims & their advocates again and again.

Is it too late to move NeurIPS 2020? There is no way Canada should be hosting 3 years in a row when their visa practices continue to be this racist

This never ends. This year, so far, 15 out of 44 people to attend workshop at (which is still in Canada) have been denied visas. That's 33%. We had all this press last year, they were supposed to help us this year.

The denial of visas for people to attend scientific conferences inhibits the free flow of ideas that is essential for scientific progress. I wish visas weren't such a hindrance, especially for those from underrepresented countries in the field of ML. We need everyone's voice!

To be clear I was not denied visa to neurips this year. I am not going in support of my fellow Africans denied visas for no reason. I had been denied visas before, the biggest one being denied a visa to pursue Cambridge’s part III Tripo Master program.
