Great point on #2 but I also think people have reached subscription fatigue. There’s just no way we can all subscribe to every news organization producing content we’re interested in reading.

I think media sites should band together to create cable-style subscription packages, but I’m not a business exec and have no idea how the actual logistics would work.

@nytimes subscriber, but I also think paywalls are a market failure caused by narrow minded publishers who improperly monetized digital this way over a decade ago and have roped reporters into believing it’s the only way and they should support paywalls. -
Dude, you really think the NYTimes sees paywalls as ”the only way” to generate revenue? I've got a cruise to sell you...

My kids and I talk about this all of the time in terms of "free" apps and the like. That's not to say that free can't be good, but it's important to realize that privacy has value.
