it's common to watch vote-share swings when looking back at trends, but at the end of the day, the votes gained/lost in a precinct matter more than the simple % there— in fact, there were many areas of TX where Beto and Cruz saw improvement 'under the hood' of swings against them

I thought I already uploaded this map as part of my 2018 Tex Sen bubble map thread, but apparently not. Anyway, here's just a zoomed out version of both candidates on the same map, coming to you a little late.

the line from wichita falls to laredo is about 700 miles long and bisects the state into 2 halves geographically— but almost 9 out of 10 texans live and cast their votes in the eastern part of the state, which is also significantly less conservative than its western counterpart

Houston mayor Bill White had a pretty respectable run against Gov. Perry, at least for a Democrat in 2010— he outdid Obama in 199 counties but did a percent worse than him overall after pretty heavy declines along the border and most suburbs.

is north of Austin (Williamson & Bell counties) and went to Trump by 13%. O'Rourke only missed it by 2% in . For Congress, M. J. Hegar (D) ran just slightly worse, giving Rep. John Carter (R) the closest race of his career. The maps are almost identical.

includes Round Rock. It was Trump+13 in 2016. But in 2018, GOP Rep. John Carter eked out a win over Air Force veteran , who raised millions after releasing an ad that went viral online. Cruz won it by 2. Hegar is running for Senate in 2020.

Let's play a game called "what's a better investment?" On the left it shows $5 Billion invested in rapid bus, commuter rail and airport bus routes. On the right it shows $3 Billion to add lanes & repair bridges on a 7 mile stretch of highway.

Workers building Milan's driverless M4 metro line -- 21 underground stations from Linate airport across the city center for ~US$2 billion -- have completed a kilometer of city center tunneling in a single month, apparently record speed.

Never say that the life of a JP isn't full of variety. Today alone I've heard a hearing on a writ of re-entry, two occupational drivers licenses, an eviction, a death inquest, a wedding, a truancy case, and four small claims cases!
