Our keynote speaker is highlighting the importance of STEM diversity in aiding corporate success, and avoiding corporate embarrassment, but let's not forget that educating students from diverse groups is our moral and legal responsibility. They're why I'm here today, not profits.

At the STEM Diversity Symposium today. Recognized by several speakers today: that has wealth and mission derived from being a Land Grant institution. But whose land? And how do we serve them?

So happy that I got to see this incredible experiment *live* in Nathalie Vriend's lab last summer -- it's amazing to see that much water in motion, driving the dynamics!

Michael Marder is kicking off a discussion of ethics we'll be having today: from the Manhattan project to data falsification to what we decide to do about honors given to APS members who are harassers. And a recommend play to read/watch:

Challenge once reporting exists: what we decide to do as a community, once we have more details about what has gone on. What actions do we take?

At the discussion of the future of our meetings, talking about hybrid IRL/virtual meetings, abstract sorting, encouraging more posters (with refreshments and flash talks), problems with picking Vegas, and the cost of public coffee ($125/gallon!) in convention centers.

Common theme: APS would love to have more industrial physicists stay involved -- if you're a (ex?)-DSOFT member who's reading this from an industrial position, I'd love to hear from you about engaging with DSOFT students and postdocs!
