No SoundCloud, but if you're a man in tech that thinks women aren't interested in your field, consider the response to this tweet as evidence there are lot of women out there that wish the participation of women in tech was more than it is. That seems like interest to me.

Ask yourself *sincerely*, "To what extent have my actions contributed to an unwelcoming culture?" Maybe the answer is not at all. But be honest. Even if you think you're only responsible for you, the culture is the pattern of actions between all us, and we all make it together.

As a statistician I guess you should know that anecdotes do not mean that much...

As a statistician, I know that anecdotes are useful for determining plausible causal mechanisms. They help us know what *can* happen in the data, and that's helpful in determining the space of applicable models.

As a coder 30 years ago who took her knitting to meetings I'd remind anyone who listened "knitting is coding and there's nothing more binary than knit/purl so go ahead - I'll listen and code at the same time and if you blather on too long this will be the only project delivered".

You simply don’t know that. Somebody coded weaving machines etc, during the industrial revolution in the UK. The Antikythera was programmed, possibly by Archimedes. People computers were French hairdressers made unemployed by the guillotine.

Some people might claim that lack of interest in tech is the reason there aren’t more women programmers, but then that would be idle speculation. Unless they have stats to support it, of course.
