a quick list of when a bandwagon happen, it need evidence to back it up(in regard to Microsoft + Github)
1) Microsoft have contribute to open source for a while, examples: .NET Open Source, Linux version of MSSQL, contribute a huge portion to git itself, a Platinum member of Linux Foundation, Microsoft created TypeScript, WSL, .NET Core, VS Code

2) past acquisition records, Linkedin was acquired by Microsoft few years ago, linkedin haven't change, Xamarin was acquired by Microsoft few years ago, and Microsoft have continue to support Xamarin and Mono

3) the new CEO for Github after the acquisition is Nat Friedman, he is the founder of Xamarin, and he have a good track record

4) Github is not making any money, so having Microsoft backing it up, can actually lead to focus on new features without sacrificing any existing component 5) both Microsoft and Github know the strength of Github , so they aren't going to impact it much

6) the ideal that because is a private repo hosted on github, now there is a issue? welcome to real life, if you care about that, you should have been using a Gitlab/Github self-host solution on your server(since AWS,Azure,GCP won't be an option for you)
