So glad I gave an end of semester survey. I got lots of good feedback from my students. So interesting that the two “heaviest” units were their favorites. These kids are interested in the 🌎 🌍 beyond their own. Today is one of the days when I think “I ❤️ my job.”

Anyone else starting new classes next (or this) week? I am! Many of my new stdts come from more traditional Sp. classes, which can be frustrating for them - "Where is the vocabulary list!? Where are the grammar notes!?" So, here is my plan:

I just finished a big unit in which I feel like I did a better job with that. I blogged about it here: I just finished this unit about Chile and wrote all about it here: Warning: Pretty LONG, but with LOTS of good

So many teach "vosotros" (1 country), but should we also be teaching "vos"? Lots of reasons here point to "yes": Also, what are we saying by *not* ever teaching it? (see tweet below) Thanks for sharing

I’m looking for Spanish short stories or other pieces of literature on the smaller side about or to use with my senior Spanish class. Mexican, Guatemalan, Salvadoran or Honduran texts are all welcome!

takes simple ideas & makes them fun & useful - like this My colleague uses a "question of the day" to take attendance and I am going to do it next semester (starts 2/3) These ??s on the slideshow will be perfect for that!

But we do have to open to **learning** A LOT of new things and being comfortable with being a learner in front of students.

A2: Reflecting on this question, I usually lean towards depth vs breadth. I like to focus on specific communities in order to provide richer context. Also, this helps to avoid stereotypes (e.g., “In Colombia, they do/think this…”)

I know people usually first think of comparing two different cultures but also showing two conflicting perspectives from the same culture helps break down stereotypes!

A5: First and foremost, diversify your feed! Intentionally seek out and follow more Teachers of Color because they have been leading the conversation on equity since the beginnings of education.
