Haha what? Jordan Peterson is... good for these guys? Ok bud.

He rails against the dangers of nihilism and disaffection in young men... seems like those might be things that we should try to make sure these incels don't fall prey to, no?

I mean based on the huge network of Peterson fans pontificating on the internet, I would guess that they're becoming further alienated. But sure.

Honest question -- why do you think they are becoming more alienated? That's not really the end result of listening to and digesting what Peterson discusses relating to nihilism and what not.

Peterson weeps while talking about how some sort of Marxist bogeyman is Coming For You. And that is the thrust of his popularity. He may have some worthwhile thoughts on nihilism. But his bread and butter fosters an us-vs-them mentality, and that's where the focus should be.

Have you listened to any of his lectures on the psychoanalytic approach to the Bible stories? They are truly fascinating. The thrust of his popularity is helping people find purpose in their life. He rejects identity politics and so I understand that makes enemies with some.

There's a lot of academics who write neat esoteric stuff about narrative and mythology. Most of them don't get famous by inventing a fantasy in which they are martyred for pronoun use. If you don't think that's why most people are drawn to him, you're being willfully ignorant.

I think reasonable minds can disagree. I first heard of him because of the pronoun stuff like most people, but his work goes far beyond that. I think you have to at least acknowledge that, no?

Yeah of course it goes beyond that. But I haven't seen any of the "beyond that" that I found to be especially worthwhile. And I think the most important thing about him is the martyr status he is transparently cultivating.

Replying to @jubjubsun @kaponofor3 and
Look, if he were any other academic, no one would be talking about him. You can like whatever of his work you want, but you can't ignore that he's famous as a pop culture figure, not an academic, and you shouldn't just take him at face value.

My point was merely that he is a good jumping off point for a fight against the despair and nihilism that appears to infect the incel community. Nothing more.
